Common questions
How is the NCAA core GPA calculated?
Each core course grade converts to points (A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1), multiplied by the course's credit value (a full year = 1 credit, a semester = 0.5). Total points divided by total credits = core GPA. Only NCAA-approved core courses count — not electives, PE, or non-academic classes.
Is core GPA different from my school GPA?
Usually, yes. Your school GPA includes every class and may be weighted. The NCAA core GPA counts only your 16 best approved core courses on an unweighted 4.0 scale — many athletes' core GPA is meaningfully different from their transcript GPA.
Which 16 courses does the NCAA count?

Do honors or AP classes boost my NCAA GPA?
