03The thing everyone gets wrong
"Our athletic department already handles compliance."
Compliance offices certify. They are built to answer whether an athlete qualifies at the moment somebody asks — which is generally too late to change the answer. Tracking is the other half of the job, it runs for six years, and at most schools it is nobody's assignment.
