Accessibility statement

PlayEligible is used by high-school athletes, their families, coaches and school staff. Some of them use screen readers, some navigate by keyboard, some need larger text or higher contrast, and some are reading on a phone in a gym. This page states where we actually stand.

Conformance target

We build against WCAG 2.2 Level AA. We have not yet commissioned a third-party audit, so we describe our status as partially conformant: most of the product meets the standard, and the gaps below are known rather than assumed. We would rather publish that sentence than a conformance claim we cannot evidence.

What is implemented

• Semantic HTML with a single main landmark and a logical heading order on every page.
• Full keyboard operation of every interactive control, with a visible focus indicator that is not removed.
• Form fields have real associated labels; errors are stated in text, not by color alone.
• Status is never carried by color on its own. An eligibility verdict, a test result, and a roster flag each carry a word as well as a hue.
• Text meets AA contrast against its background in both the light and dark surfaces of the product.
• Layouts reflow to 320 CSS pixels without horizontal scrolling; text scales to 200% without loss of content.
• Motion is limited and respects the operating system's reduce-motion preference.
• Images that carry meaning have text alternatives; decorative images are marked so screen readers skip them.
• Dialogs trap focus, close on Escape, and return focus to the control that opened them.

Known gaps

These are the things we know are not right yet. Naming them is the point of this page.

• No third-party audit. Everything above is verified by our own testing, not by an independent assessor. A published VPAT will follow the first external audit.
• Data visualizations. Charts and progress meters have text equivalents nearby, but the graphics themselves are not yet individually described for screen-reader users.
• Timed practice tests. Full-length tests are timed to mirror the real exam. A user who needs extended time can choose an untimed practice mode, but the timed mode does not currently offer an in-test extension, which is a WCAG 2.2 timing-adjustment gap we intend to close.
• Printable reports. Print and PDF output is styled for a page rather than tagged for accessibility, so a generated PDF is not yet a fully accessible document.
• Uploaded documents. A transcript a family uploads is their file; we cannot make a scanned image accessible. Every upload path has a type-it-in alternative that is fully accessible, and that alternative is never the harder route.

Assistive technology we test against

VoiceOver on macOS and iOS with Safari, NVDA on Windows with Firefox and Chrome, keyboard-only navigation on all of the above, and browser zoom to 200%. We do not currently test with JAWS or Dragon.

If any part of PlayEligible is not usable for you, tell us and we will fix it — this is a bug report, not a favor. Email accessibility@playeligible.com with the page, what you were trying to do, and the assistive technology you use if that is relevant. We aim to acknowledge within two business days and to give you a fix or a dated plan within ten.
